The Quick Notes application is here to make you forget about real-paper notebooks and sticky notes. Instead of writing down something on a sticky note, you can write it down on a virtual note and pin that note to a virtual board. Instead of writing something in a notebook, you can write it down in a text file and drag the text file to a virtual notebook. The only thing Quick Notes doesn’t do is that it doesn’t let you set up reminders and notifications, but then again neither do real-paper sticky notes.

To install Quick Notes on your PC, you will have to run an installation file that’s inside a 5MB archive. A simple setup wizard will help you get Quick Notes up and running.

When you run Quick Notes, you will see a yellow note pop out from the right hand side of the desktop and you will see a Quick Notes icon in the system tray. To hide the note out of sight, click the blue arrow displayed on it. If you don’t like the note to be yellow, you can change its color from the Options menu which you can access by double clicking the system tray icon. From the aforementioned Options menu you can play with a few other settings and you can check out a list of supported hotkeys.

The virtual notebook and the virtual board are hidden out of sight by default. You can get them to show up by right clicking the Quick Notes system tray icon and selecting Notebook and Sticky Notes respectively. Just write something in a text file, save it, and then drag and drop said text file onto the Notebook – the text file will be saved inside the notebook. Just hit the pin button on a note to stick it to the virtual board; click a note on the board to view it.

Quick Notes has a treat for users who value their privacy and security: the option to password-protect and encrypt notes with a 256-bit AES algorithm. And users who like Twitter will like that the micro-blogging service is integrated into the application.

It will be a pleasure to leave real-paper sticky notes behind and move on to the user friendly, good looking, and Twitter-enabled application Quick Notes.

Pros

Installing Quick Notes is a simple process. Use the application to write down notes, put text files in a virtual notebook, and pin notes to a virtual board. Twitter is integrated into the application. You can password protect and encrypt notes.

Cons

The functionality is limited in the trial version of Quick Notes. Other similar applications also offer the option to set up reminders and notifications.
